Braking energy regeneration, that is, energy recovery during deceleration, can greatly increase the cruising range of all electric vehicles. On Volkswagen's new ID.4, the goal of braking energy regeneration is to achieve the highest energy efficiency.
For the new pure electric SUV ID.4, Volkswagen has made different choices to pursue higher energy efficiency: Prioritize entering the coasting state to reduce the inevitable loss of energy during the energy conversion process.
Glide and energy recovery. The coasting function can be activated when the driver releases the accelerator pedal early, making driving easy and predictable. If the driver needs to decelerate further, he can depress the brake pedal to activate energy regenerative braking. The conversion process between energy regenerative braking and hydraulic braking is almost imperceptible. These systems can also ensure that the rear wheels that perform braking energy regeneration will always have sufficient grip.
