First of all, There are two types of brake calipers: monoblock brake caliper and two-piece brake caliper. Secondly, calipers are divided into cast and forged. Due to the different materials of the piston, they are also divided into steel, aluminum alloy and titanium alloy.

1) It is easy to identify between monoblock brake caliper and two-piece brake caliper. A two-piece brake caliper will have the splicing line you can see above the caliper, a monoblock brake caliper does not have this splicing line. What is the difference in terms of use?Under extreme conditions, including high temperatures, the two-piece brake caliper will appear to expand outward to a degree that reduces braking force. Monoblock brake caliper also depends on intensity and material.Under the high-intensity thermal expansion and contraction ,the elasticity of the caliper is small, the higher the braking strength ,the greater the braking force, and the less likely it is to deform in harsh environments.

2)The monoblock brake calipers: The monoblock brake caliper is manufactured as a whole by integral machining and CNC cutting. It has high requirements on material performance. If the rigidity and hardness of the caliper itself is insufficient, then when braking heavily, the caliper will have a higher probability of deformation, which will cause a sharp decrease in braking force. The advantage of a monoblock brake caliper is that it is lighter in weight than a two-piece caliper.

3)The two-piece brake caliper:The two-piece brake caliper is manufactured separately from both sides of the caliper and by CNC cutting. The back of the caliper is strengthened and fixed with several bolts, which can restrain the deformation of the caliper body during heavy braking. The weight is slightly heavier than the monoblock brake caliper.

4)The cost of monoblock brake forged calipers is many times higher than that of two-piece brake calipers, and the manufacturing process is very complicated, which is the main reason why it is so expensive. The second is the piston. The piston is made of many kinds of materials, some are steel, some are forged aluminum alloy, and the top pistons are all titanium alloy. The titanium alloy pistons used for racing also have many heat dissipation holes and no dust-proof rubber pads. Regular maintenance is required to remove brake dust.

5)The material of the piston will affect the temperature conductivity of the brake pad to the brake oil circuit. The worse the material, the stronger the temperature conductivity. A piston with poor heat insulation will cause the brake oil to boil very quickly. Once the brake fluid boils, the braking force is equal to 0.

Based on the above, after understanding the basics of these brake caliper cylinders, you should have a general understanding and understanding of these basic parameters of the calipers. Therefore, when we choose brake calipers, we must be clear about our driving purpose. Generally speaking, the two-piece brake calipers are used for vehicles driving on the street, and the monoblock brake calipers are used for vehicles driving on the race tracks. This is also the simplest way to distinguish them. If you have enough budget, it is definitely recommended to use stronger one-piece forged calipers.
