The scientific name of AT is Automatic Transmission, which realizes automatic transmission through a combination of hydraulic transmission and planetary gears. Due to the presence of a hydraulic torque converter, AT has a relatively smooth power transmission. In theory, the more gears, the smoother the shift, the more fuel-efficient, and the better the power output. Advantages: high loadable torque, stable connection, and more mature technology than CVT and dual-clutch gearboxes. Reliable and stable. Disadvantages: Because of the large volume and complex structure, the fuel-saving performance is relatively inferior to CVT and dual-clutch gearboxes. At the same time, the shift speed is not as fast as the dual-clutch. The mechanism is complicated, the maintenance is troublesome, and the cost is high.

In the CVT transmission system, the traditional gear is replaced by a pair of pulleys and a steel belt. When the chain is pushed from the top of the cone to the bottom, the so-called stepless speed change is realized. Advantages: good ride comfort, good fuel economy, and relatively convenient maintenance. Disadvantages: The steel belt driven by the CVT gearbox can withstand a limited force, and the loadable torque limit is small. A performance car that accelerates from 100 kilometers to less than 5 seconds will not consider the CVT gearbox.

The dual-clutch automatic gearbox uses two sets of clutches, which work alternately through the two sets of clutches, one controls 1, 3, and 5 gears, and the other controls 2, 4, and 6 gears. When using the first gear, the second gear is ready to achieve the effect of a gapless shift. So the shift time is greatly shortened. It is divided into two categories: 1. Dry type, less oil, prone to overheating in a semi-linked state for a long time, poor reliability, cheap, cheap maintenance, compact structure, small size, and simple matching. 2. Wet type, 3-4 times more oil, easy to cool down, fast replacement, good reliability, and higher cost.

 

In addition, automatic transmissions also include ECVT and electronically controlled mechanical automatic transmission (AMT) commonly used in hybrid models, which is often referred to as smart manual transmission.
